About Focus First Canine

Founded by Travis Hanley, Focus First Canine brings together a unique background in filmmaking, education, and canine behaviour. Our training philosophy is grounded in a holistic, practical approach that recognises every dog as an individual. Whether you're starting fresh with a new puppy, helping a rescue dog settle in, or addressing behavioural concerns, we meet you where you are—without judgment or overwhelm.

We place a strong emphasis on:

• Socialisation

• Desensitisation and counter-conditioning

• Engagement and focus-building games

Our structured methods give dogs the clarity they need to make better choices, while helping handlers stay calm and consistent—especially when working through anxiety, fear, or reactivity. We aim to make training simple, sustainable, and rewarding for both ends of the lead.

We respect that all dogs—and their people—learn differently. While we don’t currently offer group classes, we value the role they can play in the training journey and are always happy to recommend trusted local options if appropriate.
